Priestfield has been invited to host one of the celebration events planned for the British Transplant Games, which come to Medway next August.
Businessmen and politicians from across North Kent attended a launch event at Rochester Cathedral, where they heard from a number of transplant recipients who will be taking part.
Thousands of athletes, supporters, volunteers and spectators will flock to Medway for the annual sporting celebration, which will take place immediately after the Olympic Games and before the Paralympic Games.
The four-day competition is open to transplant athletes of all ages from across the UK and features events ranging from athletics, badminton and swimming to cycling, golf and table tennis. Football is not one of the sports featured, but Priestfield has been chosen as the venue for the celebration party for adult participants.
The games are organised by the charity Transplant Sport UK to raise awareness of organ donation and encourage people with potentially fatal conditions to live life to the full.
Top help promote the campaign, Gillingham Football Club has agreed to organise a special day when Gills’ players will sign up to the transplant programme.
